Ko Roger Shave tōku ingoa. Nō Ireland me Scotland ōku tūpuna. I tau tōku whānau ki Gore me Ōpōtiki. Nō Milford ki Tāmaki Makaurau ahau, e noho ana au ki Ōtepoti.
I’m a registered clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience applying psychology to support mental health and wellbeing. My expertise lies in trauma management, with a particular focus on suicide prevention and postvention. I’ve had the privilege of working throughout Aotearoa across many of Te Aho’s services. Currently, I support the To Te Rā Community Postvention Support service by reviewing and developing resources that strengthen our mahi.

I’m passionate about working collectively to apply psychological knowledge for the benefit of all. This mahi can be challenging as it holds immense sorrow and pain, but it’s a privilege to be of service during times of deep distress, and to walk alongside others in their healing and recovery.

My work continually reinforces the importance of culture, community, and connection. I bring a values-led, collaborative, and mana-enhancing approach, drawing on clinical and lived experiences in culturally responsive ways.

I’m a husband and father of two grown kids, living in Ōtepoti Dunedin. Outside of mahi, you’ll often find me cycling the Otago Peninsula or gathered around a fire with friends, soaking up the stunning landscapes of Te Manahuna, the Mackenzie Basin.
